Gotta’ Have Friends

Greet the friends, each by name.

3 John 15

Not too long ago, I found myself in a difficult place. I needed to get my home ready to sell, but it was overwhelming just thinking about it. There was so much to do, and I didn’t have the time or the energy to accomplish it by myself. After praying, I sent an email to some friends to help me out. On the designated weekend, I was shocked when over 26 people showed up at my home—most of them I didn’t know personally. My friends contacted their friends, and as a result, my house was ready in a couple of weeks.

This event was deeply humbling for me, and I was moved by the power of love from the body of Christ. There was no way I could’ve finished the work by myself. Those who participated in the fixing and cleaning up of my home did it with the greatest joy. They saw their sister in need and did what it took to help me in a desperate place.

God blesses us with friends so that we don’t have to make this Christian journey all by ourselves. He moves the hearts of our fellow believers to step up when we are in our greatest need. Yet many of us isolate ourselves from our church friends when we are going through tough times. That’s exactly what Satan wants us to do because when two or three of us are gather together, God is in the midst.

If we allow ourselves to be vulnerable and accept help from our Christian friends, we may find a renewed sense of hope for the church. More than that—we become friends and helpers of other people in the faith.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to be more open to Christian friendships and fellowship. Send the right people in my life for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
