Love Never Fails

Love never ends.

1 Corinthians 13:8

Marriage is a wonderful gift from God. It’s a bond that is meant to last until death. We live in a world where people marry for money, reputation, status, or just because everyone else is doing it. However, in God’s eyes, marriage is a bond for life unless there is adultery, an unbelieving spouse leaves, or death. Couples who want to get married need to take lots of time for prayer, study of God’s word, and godly counsel before their commitment.

The love of a husband and wife is to remain regardless of their situation. This life will bring many trials and troubles that will threaten a marriage. When the husband and wife are united through the power of God, they will together overcome great difficulties and remain committed to each other for life.

Through the grace and mercy of God, believers experience the agape, or unconditional, love of Christ. This agape love is a necessity in order to remain married for life, as there will be times when a spouse can seem to be unlovable. As followers of Jesus Christ, we all have our weaknesses, and in marriage the weaknesses are most apparent. Yet love never fails even when a spouse fails. It will cover them in the enduring love of God.

In order for this agape love to remain strong throughout the marriage, there has to be an effort to show this love. As couples grow together in years, it’s easy to take each other for granted. It’s important to ask the Holy Spirit to refresh your hearts for each other so that you don’t succumb to the temptations of the flesh. There is power from God to bring a renewed and passionate love for each other. God wants Christian couples to reflect His agape love for each other.

Prayer

Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I didn’t show agape love to my spouse. Reignite unconditional love in our marriage. Amen.
