Always Always Always Give Thanks

Giving thanks always and for everything to God.

Ephesians 5:20

Have you ever felt frustrated with the course of your life? I came into the workforce later in life when most of my peers have greater investments of 401Ks, pensions, and vacation time. Sometimes I get frustrated because I lack the same financial cushions in this season of my life. However, I’ve had to check myself on several occasions to be thankful for what I do have in my spiritual, emotional, physical, and familial investments. By thanking God for the many blessings I do have—I’m lifted out of the emotional funkiness.

To always give thanks means that we are thankful even in the midst of difficulty. When times are hard, we remember that we have God with us through our situations. We also remember that we’re not the first ones nor the last ones in our specific life challenges. An attitude of thankfulness can raise our thoughts and feelings above our current problems.

It’s not that we thank God for difficulty—it’s that we thank Him in spite of our issues. He loves us too much to let us get whatever we want when we want it. In that case, we would never grow in character, we would never know just how good God really is, and we would never know how His power can enable us to do the impossible.

Always being thankful every single day on this earth cultivates a deep inner joy that we never quite understand. This joy allows us to smile even though our hearts are broken, to trust God even though we see no way out, and to love the unkind.

As we develop into truly thankful people—we will always have a different take on life regardless of what is going on around us. We’re good because we’re grateful.

Prayer

I want to live the grateful life. Help me to always be thankful even in the darkest days—reveal Your goodness to me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

In His Service,
