When a new road or building is built out, it can be a major inconvenience. We may have to drive many miles out of our way or be relocated to another area. We accept these temporary inconveniences as work in progress with the hope of something better in the future. As believers in Christ Jesus, we are also a work in progress until He takes us home. What do we do as a work in progress?
As a work in progress, we press on in spite of adversity.
“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 3:14)
As a work in progress, we are patient in suffering. “…if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer.”
(2 Corinthians 1:6)
As a work in progress, we rely on God’s Spirit to lead us.
“When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth.”
(John 16:13)
As a work in progress, we fall down, but don’t stay down.
“Persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed.”
(2 Corinthians 4:9)
As a work in progress, we love unconditionally as we are loved by God.
“And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
(Ephesians 5:2)
As a work in progress, we need the full armor of God every day.
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”
(Ephesians 6:11)
As a work in progress, we study the word of God diligently.
“A worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
(2 Timothy 2:15)
As a work in progress, we constantly stay in conversation with God in prayer.
“Pray without ceasing.”
(1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Dear Lord, I’m a work-in-progress and I know that there is treasure laid up for me in eternity. Help me to continue to work while I can until You bring me home. In Jesus’ name, amen.
