A Willing Heart to Give

All who were of a willing heart brought burnt offerings.

2 Chronicles 29:31

Have you ever been to a church where giving is pressed and pushed as an obligation instead of joy? Those who use these methods of manipulation to get more cash into the church have lost sight of encouraging cheerful givers. Our Father in heaven owns the cattle on a thousand hills and He doesn’t need anything from us. (Psalms 50:10-11)

God wants us to give cheerfully and not grudgingly. (2 Corinthians 9:7) Many of us grudgingly pay our taxes and bills. We do so because if we don’t—there are major penalties and consequences. Yet, when we give to God, it’s our choice and out of our ability to do so. When we choose to give to God, we choose to trust Him to take care of us.

Having a willing heart means that we are holding the wealth of this world loosely in our hands. We recognize that everything in this world is perishing and that only what we give to God’s kingdom has lasting eternal benefits. It’s not that we don’t have needs (and many of us give out of our need), but rather we’ve learned to give in faith.

The Lord knows how to multiply our small portions and income to provide above and beyond what we ask or expect. Although He can increase our measure of wealth—many times He gives greater blessings that have no price tag for His children. Sometimes as we give financially, He gives us a greater measure of faith of peace, healing, and restoration.

Do you give with a willing heart? If not, ask God to open your hearts to the abundance of blessings all around your life. Pray that He will change your heart to give cheerfully so that you can experience the greater blessings.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank you for blessing me above and beyond what I could ask or expect. Help me to be generous towards building Your kingdom through my giving. In Jesus’ name, amen.
