When you have to Fight

There are times in this Christian journey when we have to fight. We have to fight our own sinful desires, we fight the mental taunts of the devil, we fight the pull of the world, we fight against false teachings and we also fight in prayer for those we love. This type of fighting can be exhausting. Sometimes, in our weakness, we can lose the desire to keep up with the fight. We can have the victory, if we remember the following steps of a good fight in the Lord:

Step #1) Know that God has already given us the victory. (1 John 5:4)
Because of Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection, we have the victory even before the fight. We fight from a place of strength, not weakness because of God’s hand over us.

Step #2) Expect resistance in the Christian journey. (John 16:23)
Satan had a fit when we gave our lives to Christ and he makes it his business to frustrate us as much as possible. It’s not a walk in the park; however, our confidence will only get stronger as we push back against evil.

Step #3) Stay prepared for battle with prayer and daily scripture readings. (Ephesians 6:17-18)
If we commit to daily prayer and Bible study, our resolve to overcome becomes stronger every day. We find the Holy Spirit quickening hope within our hearts and minds what we’ve read and prayed.

Step #4) Understand that God gives us the power to overcome every weakness. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
This power is unique only to those who’ve put their faith in Jesus. We are enabled to call upon the Lord and He will give us everything we need by His grace.

Step #5) Look towards God’s rewards in the lifetime and the next one. (2 Timothy 4:8)
When it’s a struggle, we remember the rewards of love, joy, peace, and destiny of our calling. God saved us to use us for a greater purpose and reward.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I push myself forward in the fight because I know You are with me. I pray for the Holy Spirit to quicken my heart and mind with destiny every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
