Season of Singleness

A time to refrain from embracing

Ecclesiastes 3:5

A season of singleness can be beneficial for those who have recently broken off a relationship with a boyfriend, fiance, or husband. A season of singleness gives the opportunity to refresh and engage in the Lord for spiritual renewal and focus.

When a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship has ended, there is disappointment and heartbreak. However, a season of singleness is an opportunity for reflection and reassessment of expectations. Freedom is discovered in seeking God’s direction on how to protect your heart in the next relationship.

When an engagement ends, it can be difficult, especially if there was planning in the process. Feelings of anger and disillusion can lead to bitterness and resentfulness. Yet an engagement break-up could be God’s protection from a more devastating future break-up of a family. A season of singleness can be an opportunity for God to give a deeper vision and sense of purpose for being married to the right person for you.

A separated or divorced woman desperately needs a season of singleness in order to experience God’s healing, forgiveness, restoration, and perhaps reconciliation with her husband. Her children will appreciate finding stability and peace from their mother, who holds off seeking immediate companionship. It’s better to have a substantial amount of time after a divorce to experience the healing presence of God.

A season of singleness isn’t so much a number of days or years as it is a waiting on God’s peace and direction. A wise woman begins and ends her season of singleness with prayer, study of the word, and the counsel as well as fellowship of other believers.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I recognize my need for a season of singleness. Give me the strength to desire Your companionship more than anyone else until I’m ready. Amen.
