We hear so much about God’s love that we can forget that God also hates some things. Yet, if God didn’t hate the evil in our world, He wouldn’t be a good God. The things He hates are the same things that the world admires or gives respect especially if it involves fortune and fame. What does God hate?
God hates haughty eyes. (v. 17) Those eyes who look down on other people as though they are better than them.
God hates a lying tongue. (v. 17) Those deceitful tongues that avoid the truth to attempt to get away from the inevitable consequences of their bad choices.
God hates hands that shed innocent blood. (v. 17) Those hands who take the life of those who’ve done nothing to them.
God hates a heart the devises wicked plans. (v. 18) Those hearts who ponder evil plans that provoke pain on other people.
God hates feet that make haste to run to evil. (v. 18) Those feet who love the riotous mobs that bring injury and destruction to others.
God hates when a false witness who breathes out lies. (v. 19) Those false confessions to the detriment of other people.
God hates when a person sows discord among brothers. (v. 19) Those evil intentions to purposely seek to bring division within a group of people.
The underlying commonality of what God hates most is when harm is done to people whether it’s lying, killing, or destroying relationships. He will repay those who do evil with swift justice in His timing. No one who practices the things that God hates will get away with it. We can have peace in the midst of evil because we know that God is a God of justice.
Dear Lord, I tire of the wickedness that surrounds me. I pray for renewed strength and hope that You will deal with evil doers in Your righteous timing. In Jesus’ name, amen.
