Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts.

Romans 5:5

We live in a world of hopelessness. This is why people are so driven towards doing sinful things without any regard for others, themselves, or God. They simply have lost hope. Perhaps they put their hope in religion and found that their works aren’t enough. Perhaps they put their hope in people like their parents, leaders, or society—only to find out how people can disappoint them. Perhaps they put their hope in their careers, education, or money—and have found how cold life can be.

Yet, because Jesus came to earth and died on the cross for our sins—we have hope! We have hope that there is a purpose for being born and a purpose in the day we take our last breath. We have hope that there’s more to this life than chasing after people, money, or fame. We have hope through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to overcome our weaknesses. We have hope because God has placed His grace and favor over our lives.

Jesus came to a world filled with hopelessness. His people were under the subjection and cruelty of the Roman government. Yet, when Jesus showed up—there was hope. There was hope for their lives to change and never be the same again. Look at the difference of the disciples from the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John to the book of Acts. These men were absolutely changed by the hope that Jesus gave them and every person who put their hope in Him.

God is not dead. There is hope for me and for you. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we ought wake up every day with a renewed sense of hope. He didn’t have to save us or set us free from the bondage of sin. Let’s begin today with “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation.” (Psalms 43:5) May the hope of God reside in your heart today.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I’ve been staggering in my hope and yet I want to come alive again. I pray that You renew hope in my heart as I celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ every day this week. In Jesus’ name, amen.
