Social media has opened up a large door to people that we may have never crossed paths with in any other way. Unfortunately, sometimes we have to “unfriend” people because they may post inappropriate pictures or articles. It’s not that we want to hurt them, we just want to protect our little space in the social media world to be positive and encouraging. Some of us need to take the same steps about our past experiences.
Unfriending our past is a giant step to our future prospects. If we continue to hold on to old mindsets based on our own sinful choices and opinions of others—we may never experience the joy of discovering God-given gifts and talents. Past memories of a sinful life need to be unfriended through the word of God. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5) Our sin was pleasurable for a season, but then came the judgement. We can’t glorify our past—we let it go and press forward in the faith. (Philippians 3:14)
We don’t have to carry our past mistakes with us even if we still have to deal with the consequences of bad decisions. God wants us to be free and He forgives us of our past sins. The Lord doesn’t condemn us, instead He compels us to confess our sins so that we may be forgiven. (1 John 1:9)
There’s great joy and freedom to take risks when we’ve unfriended our past. To unfriend our past means that we have a testimony of faith about God’s goodness towards us. Our testimony can encourage others to hear and know of God as well. To unfriend our past means that we can look forward to becoming a new and better person in Christ Jesus.
Dear Lord, I choose to unfriend my past sinful behaviors. Lead me through Your Spirit to make better choices so that I can experience more of You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
