Untangle from Sin

Divider
Be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

Galatians 5:1

One day I noticed a huge spider outside that corned a flying insect. Once the insect seemed caught, the spider moved back away from it. The flying insect struggled with everything in it—yet, the more it struggled, the more entangled it became. While I’m not fond of flying insects, I felt sorry for its fate.

In the same way, Satan corners us into sin and if we look to our own strength to pull our way out—we become more entangled in defeat. The web of sin is deceitful because we don’t see it coming. Sin can be pleasurable for a season (Hebrews 11:5); however, the consequences can last over a lifetime. Once we’ve been wrapped in the web of iniquity, how do we get untangled?

#1) Recognize that we’ve sinned.
“Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. (Psalm 51:4)

#2) Repent of our sins.
“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.” (Acts 3:19)

#3) Receive God’s forgiveness.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

#4) Redeem the time.
“ Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:16)

God will never turn away a repentant heart. If we would humble ourselves, He will receive us so that we can walk in the freedom that comes from Christ Jesus. God loves and forgives us completely. Even if there are consequences from our sins, He will be with us and help us get through it.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I’m entangled in my sin and I can’t see my way out. I pray for Your hand to guide and cover me towards freedom in Christ Jesus. In Jesus’ name, amen.
