Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.
Some have said that worrying is like a rocking chair; it keeps you moving, but it doesn’t take you anywhere. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are commanded to not worry about tomorrow and instead find our peace in today. It’s easy to get ensnared in the trap of anxiousness, especially because of the incredible uncertainty of the global economy and rise of crime. Yet we were born in such a time as this with the hope of Christ burning in our hearts. Why don’t we worry?
We don’t worry because God is in control (Psalm 24:1).
If we settle in our hearts that God is sovereign and absolutely nothing can happen without His knowledge, we can have peace even in the midst of troubles.
We don’t worry because God has everything we need (Philippians 4:19).
Fretting about not having what we need is fruitless. God promises to meet each and every one of our needs according to His riches in glory.
We don’t worry because God has placed eternal hope in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11).
As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have the Holy Spirit within us, Who refreshes our hope and joy beyond this finite world.
We don’t worry because God wants our faith in Him to grow (James 1:2-3).
If we sense worry attempting to infringe upon our hearts and minds, we can immediately recognize this opportunity to place all of our trust in the Lord.
We don’t worry because God loves us (Romans 8:35-39).
The love of God for each one of us is greater than we can ever imagine. His love is powerful enough to get us through whatever difficulties we may face.
Dear Lord, I don’t want to live a worry-filled life. Instead, I desire to live a faith-filled life. Restore my peace so that I can finish my faith journey strong in Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
