Pray for the Unborn Children

What then will this child be?

Luke 1:66

Zechariah and Elizabeth had no idea what their son, John the Baptist, was going to do in preparation for Jesus’ arrival on the earth. Most likely, they died before John’s earthly ministry since they were elderly at his birth. Yet, they believed God as Elizabeth carried him through the nine months of pregnancy. She experienced the great joy of prophecy when her baby leaped within her at the sound of Mary’s voice. (Luke 1:41-45)

Based on Zechariah and Elizabeth’s faithful service and righteous lives—we can assume that they not only prayed for John during pregnancy, but so much more after he was born. John led the way for the people’s hearts to be open to the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Because of his ministry of baptism, many people were ready to repent and follow after Jesus. Even though his earthly life was cut short, the magnitude of his ministry still impacts the Christian church.

God hears the prayers of pregnant moms and those family members who also intercede for the child. We may forget all the details of our prayers, but God doesn’t forget to answer in His will and timing. Our children will grow up in a day and age that will slide farther away from truth. As we get closer to the return of Jesus Christ, men and women will get worse as we’ve seen in waves of criminal and immoral behavior like never before.

Yet, this doesn’t mean we are to be filled with fear—rather we can intercede for our children and grandchildren while they are still in the womb. We can pray their strength and courage to stand for the truths of God against the waves of evil. We can pray their perseverance and steadfastness in God’s word. We can pray that the Holy Spirit will set them apart for His good will and pleasure to make a difference in the world.

Prayer

Dear Lord, lead me to pray for the unborn children that You will keep Your hand over them for Your will in their lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
