Crossing the Jordan

Divider

When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.

Joshua 3:8

Crossing the Jordan River was a pivotal moment for Joshua and the Israelites. Just as Moses parted the Red Sea at the start of their journey through the wilderness, Joshua parted the Jordan River at the start of their living in the Promised Land.

Crossing the Jordan meant they were moving beyond their history as slaves to being free people of God. Crossing the Jordan meant they were never going back to wilderness living. Crossing the Jordan meant they were on the cusp of being conquerors and stakeholders in the Promised Land.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we will also have our “crossing the Jordan” life experiences. We were never saved by God’s grace to remain the same throughout our Christian journey. Because we live in a sinful world, we will have wilderness experiences, which sometimes include loss, illness, death, disappointment, rejection, etc. Yet during those times, the Lord promises to never leave or forsake us. His presence gets us to the shores of our Jordan River of purpose and destiny.

When we’re standing at our Jordan River, we need to recommit our faith and allegiance to Jesus Christ. Before we experience the greatness of God’s faithfulness in the Promised Land, we need to remember His grace that carried us through the tough times. We need to reconcile ourselves to fully commit everything we are and everything we own to Him. We need to be ready to defeat our enemy with the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Crossing our Jordan River is what we’ve been wanting our entire lives. It’s the culmination of a faith journey that helps us draw closer to God and experience His everlasting peace over our lives.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to cross my Jordan River and experience a deeper relationship with You. Fill me with Your Spirit to move forward in faith. Amen.
