Hang Tough and Trust

Divider

O my God, in you I trust.

Psalm 25:2

How does a believer hang tough and trust when life’s circumstances bring pain and trouble all at the same time? Sometimes it would seem easier to let go and just fall into unbelief like so many other people. Yet hanging tough and trusting in God builds spiritual muscles that will continue throughout our lives regardless of the situations.

How do we hang tough despite the adversity? First, we hang tough because we recognize that we aren’t hanging on by our own strength anyway. It’s God Who upholds and gives us the strength to press forward. We would’ve fallen by the wayside a long time ago if it weren’t for the grace and mercy of God.

We hang tough because God keeps His promises, and He will never lie. His word is true and enduring until the end, and we can have confidence in it. Our strength and courage to hold on is in direct proportion to what we know and believe from the Holy Scriptures. The less we know, the harder it is to hold on. The more we know, the stronger our grip becomes.

We also hang tough because of the word of our testimony. Giving up or giving into temptation does more damage to our situation than if we would press forward in faith. We fight from victory in Christ Jesus—we’ve already won the battle. Our testimony of God’s goodness in the midst of trouble serves notice to everyone (including the devil) that we are going to make it.

Hanging tough and trusting in God isn’t easy, but it’s completely possible as we pray to the Lord every day for renewed strength in our inner person. God hears. God answers.

Prayer

Dear Lord, so many times I just want to let go and give up. But I trust you. Please strengthen my heart to hang on and trust every single day of my life. Amen.
