New Year’s Theme #2: Pray More Intensely

Divider

The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

James 5:16

Sometimes it’s hard to keep praying when we don’t see the evidence of our efforts. I personally have had times when I struggled with persevering through prayer. There are times when I sense a great moving in the Spirit as though things are in motion that I can’t see. Yet a little while later, it feels like my prayers are going nowhere. It’s in those times I’m most tempted to give up praying.

However, when I want to stop and move on to something else, I’m compelled by the Spirit of God to keep praying regardless of how I feel or what I see in the natural sense. God knows the beginning and ending of every life story. Because He is ultimately in control, I can have peace about praying when I don’t see things happening in my view.

When we’ve decided to live a righteous life, our prayers are more powerful than we could ever imagine. Satan wants us to give up because he knows that our prayers inhibit his evil plans. When Daniel prayed, God immediately sent an answer; however, the angel was held up by the devil for 21 days (Daniel 10:12-13). There is a spiritual battle being played out, and our prayers are a part of the spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:18). How can we pray more powerfully in the New Year?

We can pray more powerfully with a consistent time of day to pray (Ephesians 6:18).

We can pray more powerfully by the confessing and repenting of our sins (1 John 1:9).

We can pray more powerfully when united with other believers (Matthew 18:20).

We can pray more powerfully with speaking God’s word back to Him (Psalm 119:170).

We can pray more powerfully in faith and not by what we see (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to be a stronger prayer warrior in the New Year. Renew a greater calling for me to intercede and trust in You with all of my heart.
