Moment by Moment

Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

Ephesians 5:16

When I was going through difficult moments of my life, I would say to myself “just make it through the day.” However, as the days became more unstable and pressing, I found myself just trying to make it “moment by moment”. I learned to live in the moment I was in instead of trying to hurry it up for the next day.

Living intentionally moment by moment changes us. We learn to slow down and value the people around us with meaningful conversations. We savor opportunities to rest and meditate on our present moment and where God is leading us. We hear the Holy Spirit giving us the assurance of His presence.

There’s a certain pause that happens in our lives where we are less concerned about the future. It’s not that we don’t care or prepare for the days to come, but we understand that tomorrow isn’t promised to us anyway. A moment by moment lifestyle frees us from worrying all the time and instead we rest in God’s promises to hear our prayers.

If we take this pathway, we find that life becomes less complicated and busy. Decisions are made based on God’s peace and not on other people’s schedules. We find the time for doing those things that we constantly put off in the past. Our lives become richer as we pursue those activities that refresh our hearts and minds with purpose.

Taking it moment by moment means that we refuse to jump into the frenzy of the day without prayer. We speak to our Father in heaven and we listen for His response. We ask Him to keep our minds stayed on Him and His truths throughout the day. He will give us joy in the moments that make the most difference in and around us.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to live in the moment every day of my life. Help me to slow down and trust in You to speak to my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
