I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine.

Song of Solomon 6:3

Marriage is a gift from God. Our world and culture have undermined the value of being married for a lifetime. Yet, the Lord honors the marriage between a man and a woman for His purpose in raising up godly generations. Marriage isn’t easy, but it’s worth the effort to stay together and work out differences. Gain an understanding of what it means to be M.A.R.R.I.E.D.:

M – Make your marriage a priority over everything else except God.
“Let marriage be held in honor among all.” (Hebrews 13:4)

A – Accept your partner as you desire to be accepted with strengths and weaknesses.
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.” (Matthew 7:12)

R – Recognize God’s plan to use marriage to make you more like Christ.
“‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.” (Ephesians 5:31-33)

R – Remember your power source through the Holy Spirit for strength, wisdom, and insight.
“That according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being.” (Ephesians 3:16)

I – Identify mentors and prayer warriors to come alongside your marriage journey.
“Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.” (Proverbs 19:20)

E – Equip yourself by praying God’s word over your marriage.
“Then the LORD said to me, ‘You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.’” (Jeremiah 1:12)

D – Do everything for your spouse as unto God because your reward comes from Him.
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want my marriage to bring honor and glory to Your name. Help me to do what it takes to keep this marriage holy and complete. In Jesus’ name, amen.
