The world defines living the life as having lots of money, multiple relationships, and power over others. However, these things will not bring us the peace that we seek in our lives. In fact, an abundance of these desires can lead us away from living the one true LIFE in Christ:
L – Live in the moment
“Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. (Proverbs 27:1)
Sometimes we allow ourselves to get too busy and we miss some of the best things in life. Our careers, social media, and recreational pursuits can blind us to the reality of wasted time. We need to live in the precious moments given to us from God. He blesses us with time for prayer, for family time, for reflective moments, etc. These are opportunities we may never get to repeat at a later date.
I – Invest in your calling and purpose.
“Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days. (Ecclesiastes 11:1)
When God has placed a calling on our lives, it impacts everything we touch. Whatever our gift and purpose, we will always hear the calling in our hearts to go beyond what we can do on our own. Our Lord compels us through the Holy Spirit to do what is necessary to grow in our gifts. This could mean going back to school, attending conferences, or volunteering at various opportunities. The point is that we press our way to grow—overcoming our doubts and fears.
F – Focus with an eternal perspective.
“So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:12)
If we begin our day with an eternal perspective, it keeps us from wasting time on the useless works of the flesh. We can refine our thinking at home, work, church, and school with actions that speak of God and His glory. This happens when we continue to see the bigger picture of only what we do for Christ will last. There’s an eternal reward for those who seek after God every day.
E – Enjoy the life journey.
“Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” (3 John 2)
Our life journey isn’t promised to fun and easy all the time. Yet, we have a gift from God when we wake up to a new day—He promises new grace and mercy all over again. The Lord desires that we enjoy our life journey as much as possible. This happens when we pursue contentment and peace beyond our circumstances. As we keep our eyes on Jesus, He fills our hearts with joy in the moment.
Dear Lord, I long to live the life You want for me. Help me to see where I’ve become complacent and lead me to the paths of joy. In Jesus’ name, amen.
