Why Some Women Settle

She is far more precious than jewels.

Proverbs 31:10

Single women can find themselves in situations where they face difficulty. For many single women, it would be easier to have a man around who can shovel the snow, take care of the lawn, fix the broken appliances, or repair the car. Even greater than helping out with the finances and household responsibilities is the desire to have a companion and partner to share life’s ups and downs.

There is a real temptation to settle for any man who meets the single woman’s needs instead of waiting on God to bring the right one. Some women settle because they are tired, frustrated, and impatient with God’s timing. It’s quite understandable, as “two are better than one” (Ecclesiastes 4:9). This is common sense—two people shoveling a driveway can finish faster than one, two people’s incomes help pay the bills faster than one, etc.

Yet the Lord has greater plans for the single woman who refuses to settle because she understands her value in Christ. Because of her incredible worth in the sight of God, He will encourage her spirit when she’s feeling low. He will bring the right man in the perfect timing of His will.

It’s the single woman’s responsibility to take all her cares—spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically, and financially—to the Lord in prayer. Not only does God want to meet all her needs, He is more than able to supply all her needs according to His riches in glory. The single woman who has put all her trust in the Lord will not “need” a man necessarily. Her future husband will be someone she can partner with in the faith as long as he comes from the Lord.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I look to You for all my needs as a single woman. Give me fresh insight into my value in Your eyes, and renew a patient spirit within my heart. Amen.
