How Uncertainty can be a Blessing

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering.

[Hebrews 10:23]

Many of us are facing an uncertain future at this moment. We could have unrest in our marriages where separation and/or divorce are becoming a reality. We could be waiting for test results on a scary diagnosis. Or we could be experiencing job layoffs and we’re uncertain of our future career. Uncertainty is a struggle we all will experience in our lives at some point in time.

As difficult as it is to deal with uncertainty—it’s also an opportunity to stretch our faith. If everything was convenient, comfortable, and predictable all the time, many of us would not mature in our spiritual walk. The temptation to become slothful and passive in our faith is real because we are human. Therefore, when we are faced with uncertainty, we can grow in our faith. How can uncertainty be a blessing?

#1) When we take the focus off of our situation and place it on God’s goodness and greatness.
#2) When we remember that God is in control of our lives.
#3) When we meditate on His promises in the word.
#4) When we seek God’s wisdom and trust in His provision to take care of us.
#5) When we testify of God’s grace and mercy to others who may be struggling.

When we learn to calm down and practice these 5 steps, we become stronger in our faith. It’s doesn’t prevent the trials of the unknown; however, it helps us to rest in God’s love. As we continue to press past doubt, fear, and anxiety—hope begins to spring root and produces a flourish of new expectations in our spiritual journey.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I pray for strength through this time of uncertainty. I put all of my hope in You to lead me in the right direction. In Jesus’ name, amen.
