God Has Your Back

The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard

Isaiah 58:8

Have you ever been in a situation in which you needed somebody to have your back? It could be a family member or friend who will defend your integrity when you are unable due to circumstances surrounding you. What makes them do this? Mainly because they really know your heart and intentions are good, even if everything seems to cry out guilty. The Lord has your back as well!

Because the “glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard,” you don’t have to be afraid and constantly watch what’s behind you. The Lord protects and keeps those who belong to Him. He expects us to move forward in faith instead of constantly backing up and worrying about what’s behind. It’s interesting that in Ephesians 6 there is no spiritual armor for the back. We are expected to conquer Satan’s bondage over our loved ones and take ground for the kingdom of God.

We can’t overcome the enemy if we are constantly looking behind. Our courage and strength come from the Lord. It’s a matter of faith, believing that God has your back so you can freely move forward. As we meditate daily on God’s word and consistently pray to Him throughout the day, our faith is strengthened and we are amazed at how much ground we can take in a day.

There will always be the temptation to doubt, but this doubt only grows with our complacency about our Christian walk. Those who struggle with always looking back could also struggle with establishing a regular time for Bible study, prayer, and Christian fellowship. We don’t give ground to the enemy by dabbling in sinful thoughts and behaviors. Instead, we unashamedly defend the faith and walk uprightly in the Lord.

Prayer

Dear Lord, give me the courage to take ground for the kingdom of God. Guard my heart against complacency, as I know that You have my back. Amen.
