God of My Weakness

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”

2 Corinthians 12:9

I made a plane reservation months ago in order to see my daughter play volleyball at a national tournament. In my rush to get the ticket, I failed to pay enough attention to the stops and times. As a result, what should’ve been a four-hour plane trip was an eight-hour trip with me arriving at the destination at 1 a.m., losing time and money when I’m short on both. I felt stupid for my carelessness and inconvenience.

Have you ever made an honest mistake and couldn’t shake the feelings of failure? It’s at those times we are most reminded of our weaknesses and faults. Satan uses those feelings to cause us to become discouraged. If we aren’t aware of his devices, we can begin to believe the lies and allow the seed of discouragement to keep us from moving forward spiritually.

However, if we readily admit our failings to God and seek His strength to get past them, we can find peace. God is not only the God of our strengths and accomplishments–He’s also the God of our weaknesses. Even when we fall short, He is able to use our failure for His glory.

In retrospect, for each time I failed in the past, there are many more moments where the Lord kept me from making a mistake. God not only gives me strength for my weaknesses, He also uses them as opportunities for me to mature in my faith and trust in Him more. For all I know, God will (as He always does) use what I think is a mistake as an opportunity for His glory.
