Losing a race isn’t the worst thing that can happen to a runner. It’s worse to work hard in practice every day, eat right, discipline your spirit, mind, and body—get to the race and hardly even try to finish strong. Why go to all that trouble if you aren’t going to push yourself all the way to the finish line?
Many of us are like this in our Christian walk. We do all the things that Christians are expected to do. We say all the things that Christians are expected to say. Yet are we really focused on winning the race of our faith? Are we looking towards the finish line of our lives and giving it everything we have?
We can get lost in the distractions of this life and find ourselves not even on the track anymore. It’s not difficult to lose the focus of intensely living out our Christian faith. There are many good things that we allow to take more attention and energy than God intended for us. We want to be good parents. We want to be good to our spouses. We want to be good workers at our jobs. However, we must balance our responsibilities with the focus of the finish line of life.
We can have a great marriage, family life, and career in God’s will…and still finish strong. This will require our eyes to remain focused on Jesus Christ and following Him with all of our hearts. When we recognize that perhaps we moved our focus from the finish line—we can seek God in prayer to realign our vision for our life in His will.
Dear Lord, I want to finish this race of life with strength. I pray for your vision to be evident in my life that I will have a testimony of your faithfulness.
