Uncomfortable in the Calling

Divider

But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.

Exodus 4:10

When God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt, there was reluctance–not on God’s part but on Moses’ part. He struggled with the idea that he would be expected to speak to a large group of people on behalf of God. Yet after some point in the journey, Moses began to speak up to the people.

When God calls us to do His good work, we may not always be comfortable in the calling. Sometimes we can be like Moses—coming up with all the excuses of why we aren’t the ones to do His will in a certain manner.

However, feeling uncomfortable is normal and probably good for the majority of believers. As long as we believe that we can do the calling of God in our own strength, we are bound to fail miserably. Yet when we trust in God to provide us everything we need for His great work, we show the glory of God.

The Lord is glorified when great things are done through us. This happens when we recognize that the great ability within us isn’t because we are so gifted and talented, rather that God has chosen us as the vessels of His grace and strength. God takes our small contribution of the calling, and He brings greater blessing, with people giving their lives to Christ or experiencing a significant deliverance from the enemy.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please increase my strength to follow everything that You have called me to do. Help me to trust in You, even though I may be uncomfortable in the calling. Amen.
