How do I know that I’m Saved

Many people struggle with knowing the assurance of their salvation. They may have been baptized and confessed their faith in Jesus. And yet they still wonder if they are truly saved. It’s an understandable struggle because we are constantly pulled by the world, our flesh, and Satan to do our own thing. We also struggle because we may not “feel” like we’re saved as we still struggle with the same old sins and mindset of our past.

However, just because we struggle doesn’t mean our salvation in Jesus Christ is under question. Many of us struggle not because we aren’t saved—but because we are saved. The struggle is real and it’s a testimony that we are in this world, but not of the world. We are promised eternal life in Jesus Christ, but yet we still live in a sin-sick environment. How can we know that we are really SAVED?

S – Salvation is based on God drawing us to Himself more than it’s about us coming to Him.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” (John 15:16)

A – Assurance of salvation may be felt immediately, but sometimes it’s grown over time as we move closer to God through times of intimate prayer and the intentional study/meditation of His word.
“That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.” (Philippians 3:10-13)

V – Victory over sin was finished at the cross; however, we will continuously experience the power of Christ over sin in our lives as we confess, repent, and live out the righteous life He has given us.
“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:1-2)

E – Engagement with other Christians is a part of our salvation story and spiritual growth as it gives opportunity for us to serve one another and develop our Holy Spirit given gifts.
“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-14)

D – Discernment of the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives sets us apart from those who don’t know Jesus—we are marked as children of God and He will lead us in the right direction.
“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.” (Romans 8:14-17)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I know that my salvation is secure in You. Strengthen my faith so that I can walk fully in the confidence and assurance of my salvation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
