Away in a Manger

You will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.

Luke 2:12

Why would the Savior of the world be born and laid in a feeding trough for animals? He should’ve been born in a kingly palace and placed in a golden crib. However, even the best that we can offer Him pales in comparison to what He left in heaven.

There’s nothing random about God’s plan for Jesus and the world. He was born under humble circumstances, but He will return in power and strength. The manger held the only answer for mankind—that we would believe in the one and only Son of God so that our sins may be forgiven.

When we ask Jesus to come into our hearts, He once again places Himself in a humble place so that we would boldly proclaim freedom from darkness. His Spirit within us compels us to move forward in faith when we want to give up. His Spirit within leads us when we feel lost and without direction. His Spirit gives us hope when we are completely desperate with fear and anxiety.

Our hearts are like that manger—to yield to His leading every day. The manger is the beginning point of our relationship with Jesus. As we grow in our faith, our hearts become more sensitive to the leadings and convictions of the Holy Spirit.

It’s our responsibility to keep our hearts and motives pure so that our Savior can find a home there. By turning away from the lures and temptations of the world, we are growing moment by moment in our faith. Even when we’ve sinned, we can immediately confess, receive His forgiveness and be cleansed from our sins. Our hearts are the right place for Jesus to be today.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I need Your Spirit and presence in my today. Guide me where You want me to be. In Jesus’ name, amen.
