I’m Worth Fighting For

Because you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you.

Isaiah 43:4

Anyone who’s ever struggled with codependency almost always struggles with their self-worth. Because of this struggle, there is a tendency to settle for less than God’s best, especially when it comes to our relationships. Instead of finding our value in God, we find it in trying to please someone else. These relationships rarely end well.

God doesn’t want us to settle for unhealthy relationships in order to feel good about ourselves. He wants us to be whole and complete in Jesus Christ first so that we can be free to do His will and clearly hear God’s voice. When we believe the satanic lie that we aren’t good enough or worth the trouble, our hearts become breeding grounds for being manipulated and controlled by other people. We will go to all sorts of trouble to be loved and accepted by those who don’t really love us.

The only true cure for this codependent lifestyle is a total spiritual makeover. It’s accepting what God says about us and rejecting the lies of the enemy without doubt or hesitation. It may not happen overnight, but with due diligence in the memorization and application of God’s word, we can be completely changed from the inside out.

Knowing that we are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17), bought with a price (1 Corinthians 7:23), accepted (Romans 14:18), loved (1 John 4:10), precious (1 Peter 3:4), and chosen (1 Peter 2:4) will give us the confidence to move forward.

There will be resistance from those who desire us to stay in the place of codependency, but we must press past the old mindset of low self-worth and rise to the power given by God through His word.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I’ve made so many mistakes in being codependent. Help me to step up and out of old patterns of thinking and become everything You called me to be in Christ Jesus. Amen.
