Let your word be like the word of one of them and speak favorably.
Both King Ahab and King Jehoshaphat were preparing for war against the king of Syria. Before they went to war, the righteous Jehoshaphat wanted to inquire from God. Ahab brought his 400 prophets who prophesied that they would be successful. However, Jehoshaphat wanted a prophet of the Lord, not one of the pagan prophets. Micaiah was told to speak in unison with the other 400 prophets. Instead, Micaiah prophesied that Ahab would die and the soldiers would be scattered. The kings rejected Micaiah’s prophetic word, and he was thrown in prison. However, just as he prophesied, the battle resulted in a severe loss.
When Christians speak the truth of God’s word that goes against the beliefs of those in the world, we are enormously outnumbered. Sometimes it may appear that we are off our game and missing the mark when dealing what the world needs to hear. However, as long as we speak the truth in love, God’s word will not return void (Isaiah 55:11).
Believers in Jesus Christ are more powerful than we may appear. The Scriptures reveal that those who trust in the Rock can put 1,000 to flight and two can put 10,000 to flight (Deuteronomy 32:30). Our battle isn’t against those in the world as it is against spiritual wickedness from Satan and his demons.
Because of the Lord on our side, we have the indwelling power of the Spirit to speak truth and know that God will perform His word. Being outnumbered doesn’t mean that we are wrong. Actually, it could mean that we are standing on truth even if we stand alone.
Dear Lord, I pray for the courage to stand up for what is right even if I’m outnumbered. Help me to speak the truth in love so that others will be rescued from the veil of deception. Amen.
