If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples.

John 8:31

I’ve always struggled with memorizing scriptures. I can do it, but it doesn’t stick for me when I memorize just for the purpose of memorization. Yet I can easily quote scriptures in prayer. I’ve learned over the years to pray the scriptures in my daily time with God. By doing so the scriptures aren’t just words on a page—they are active and powerful. Not only have I learned to pray the word of God for myself, but as a prayer intercessor—I’ve also prayed for others the same way.

When I don’t know what to do:
Dear Lord, you say in your word that you give wisdom liberally to those who ask of you in faith. I pray for your wisdom in this situation. (James 1:5)

When I’m praying for someone who is lost:
Dear Lord, I pray that you open the eyes of my friend and turn them from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God so that they may receive the forgiveness of sins and a place among those who’ve been sanctified by faith in Christ. (Acts 26:18)

When I’m in need:
Dear Lord, your word says that you will supply all my needs according to your riches in glory. I pray that you move on my behalf with this need. (Philippians 4:19)

When I can’t sleep:
Dear Lord, I lay down and sleep in peace for you make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)

When I feel anxious:
Dear Lord, your word says that I’m not to be anxious about anything, but in everything with thanksgiving, I present this request to you and I seek your peace to guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-8)

When I feel doubtful:
Dear Lord, I trust in you with all of my heart and I don’t lean to my own understanding. I acknowledge you in all my ways and I know that you will direct my path. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I pray for your sustaining grace and power to pray the scriptures everyday so that they become a part of who I am in Christ. Amen.
