All the people of my town know that you are a woman of noble character.
How does a woman of noble character handle life’s problems? Many woman are admired for their physical appearances, intellectual acuteness, outstanding athleticism, or financial success. Yet Ruth’s faith in God resulted in His blessing over her life. By taking care of her mother-in-law, God orchestrated events leading to her marriage and the lineage of King David. What are the actions of a N.O.B.L.E. woman?
N – Never gives up (Ruth 1:18). Ruth observed the life and grief of Naomi, but she wanted to persevere regardless. Just as with Ruth, God uses our disappointments and tragedies to draw us closer to Him and make us more like his Son, Jesus Christ.
O – Observes godly advice (Ruth 3:5). Ruth listened to good advice resulting in her marriage to Boaz. God also provides noble women with godly mentors if we are willing to humble ourselves.
B – Believes in God during difficult times (Ruth 1:16). Ruth was able to look past the trial and towards hope in God. Knowing God isn’t the absence of pain; it’s knowing His presence and promises through the difficulties.
L – Loyal to God and others in her life (Ruth 4:15). Ruth remained loyal to God and Naomi in her actions. Our culture demonstrates that their greatest loyalties are to themselves. We are more like Christ in our service as we give of our time, energy, money, and gifts to our homes, church, and work.
E – Experiences the greater blessings from God (Matthew 1:5). Ruth’s marriage brought spiritual, emotional, and physical security for her and Naomi. However, her greater blessing was a lineage that led to the birth of Jesus Christ. There’s no way she could’ve known how her noble decisions—one at a time—would impact the world.
Dear Lord, I want to be a woman of noble character. Lead me in the right paths so that I may bring honor to Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
In His Service,
