How many times do we feel like we can’t make it? The road is rough…the going gets tough…but we still have things to get done. I’ve found myself there many times both as a stay at home mom of five children and working outside the home. There are days when I just lay in the bed and say “God, I can’t do this. You will have to help me.” It could a physical tiredness, emotional drainage, or spiritual apathy. Whatever it is, I don’t feel the strength nor ability to keep going.
And yet I do. It’s the power of God within me that propels me forward when I have little strength. As I continually rely on Him, my strength grows and I find it easier to cope and deal with adversity when it comes along. What should we do when our strength is SMALL?
S – Seek God’s help in prayer.
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
M – Move in the direction the Spirit is leading us.
“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God! Let your good Spirit lead me on level ground!” (Psalm 143:10)
A – Acknowledge that God is the source of our strength.
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)
L – Let go of the unnecessary tasks that we put on ourselves.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1)
L – Leave unfinished business in the hands of God.
“Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” (Psalm 55:22)
When we depend on God’s grace, He gives us the strength to get what we need to get done. He won’t fail us as we put all of our trust in Him and not in ourselves. Try asking God for the grace to complete the work you have today.
Dear Lord, I am weak, but You are strong. I pray for the strength to do what needs to be done and the wisdom for what needs to be left alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
