Keep alert with all perseverance.
Have you ever been in a place of your faith when you felt like quitting? It could be from a major setback in the home, on the job, in your relationships, or in your health. Sometimes it feels like there is relief in quitting. You don’t have to worry anymore about how God is going to answer your prayers because you quit praying. You don’t have to be bothered by church people because you quit going. You don’t have to worry about what God’s word teaches because you stop reading.
Yet quitting doesn’t mean things get easier. In fact, quitting may make things worse in the present and certainly in the future. When we quit doing the things of God, we have given up on the Lord even though He is working all things towards our good. When you feel like quitting, try the following instead.
1) Talk to God. (1 Peter 5:7)
The Lord isn’t taken aback by the fact that we want to quit. As we tell Him the truth about our feelings, the Holy Spirit will give us direction and blessed assurance to stick with it.
2) Take it one day at a time. (Psalm 118:24)
Many times we want to quit because we feel overwhelmed by the big picture of life. However, if we ask God for grace just for that day, that hour, that minute, we will get through it.
3) Think about God’s unconditional love for you. (Romans 8:35-39)
We may want to quit, but God will never, never, never quit on us. He will be with us regardless of what we say or do—nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus.
4) Thank God for everyday blessings. (1 Thessalonians 5:18)
There’s something about changing our focus from quitting to being thankful that keeps us in the right way. A thankful heart could never walk away from God.
5) Throw off everything that pulls you away from truth. (Hebrews 12:1)
When we feel like quitting, it usually means we are carrying a heavy load that God didn’t mean for us. We need to reassess our time and schedules so that we can be free to serve God with a pure heart.
Dear Lord, sometimes I just want to quit but I know that You have better for me. Give me the strength to press on in the faith every day.
