What’s up with the name of Jesus?

So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow.

Philippians 2:10

I watched a good, family friendly movie with my youngest daughter. The scenes were so real and touching that I was moved to tears throughout most of it. It was a solidly Christian movie with symbols of the cross and church scenes. It also had great actors who played their roles with excellence. Even though I wasn’t immediately aware of it, I realized that Jesus may have been mentioned one time throughout the whole movie. Is it okay to hardly mention Jesus? Should it matter to us or not?

Not mentioning Jesus is like enjoying the beauty of a perfect spring day and not noticing the glistening glory of the sun reflected on the trees. Or being on the beach at sunset and not noticing the multicolored sky with soft oceanic reflections. Just as we can’t ignore the glory of nature, we can’t ignore the glory of Jesus. He is everywhere all the time. Yet, the worldly culture continues to deny His presence.

Sometimes it’s easier for our society to avoid the name of Jesus in order to appeal to all people. If we name Jesus Christ, who Himself proclaimed, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”, it may be seen as offensive. (John 14:6) The beauty of Jesus is that He is love, joy, and peace. He came to earth so that every single person can come to the Father…if we would only believe in Him.

Our society may continue to avoid the name of Jesus. However, one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. We will see Him in all of His heavenly glory. As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we uphold and mention His name because He is our hope for today, tomorrow and throughout eternal life.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I proclaim Your name as holy and righteous. I put all of my trust in the name of Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
