What to do when you want to Give up

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

Giving up only seems easy in the moment. However, for those who’ve persevered in the faith—giving up is not an option. God will come through for us in His perfect timing and way. We have to learn to press our way in the areas we are most tempted to quit: faith, family, physical health, finances, and future.

Faith – trusting in God’s instruction regardless of the circumstances.
“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Be not like a horse or a mule, without understanding, which must be curbed with bit and bridle, or it will not stay near you.” (Psalms 32:8-9)

Family – praying and interceding for those we love even in their resistance.
“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” (1 John 5:14-15)

Physical Health – keeping the faith in the midst of difficult physical challenges.
“Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:8-10)

Finances – giving even though we may not have much to give.
“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38)

Future – looking towards a hopeful future in Christ for this world and next.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the LORD, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the LORD, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.” (Jeremiah 29:11-14)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I’m not going to give up. I trust in Your hand to strengthen me with hope to move forward. In Jesus’ name, amen.
