What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Do

Divider

Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10

Have you’ve ever been in a situation where you were completely lost on what to do? Sometimes it’s a choice between two good decisions or perhaps choosing the lesser of two evils. Either way, we can struggle and feel a little panicky when choices aren’t clear.

When we don’t know what to do in a situation, we can feel pressed into something we aren’t comfortable with doing. It’s in those times we can rely on the fact that God knows everything, and He also knows our struggle with it. We can practice the 4 P’s of what to do when we don’t know what to do: Pray, Pause, Pursue, and Place.

Pray for wisdom. (James 1:5)
We can be confident asking God for wisdom because He promised to give it to us in abundance. Our role is to ask in faith without doubting Him. The wisdom from God is different from the world, which is rooted in selfishness. (James 3:17-18)

Pause for the Holy Spirit’s leading. (John 16:13)
Sometimes we are in situations when quick thinking and action is necessary. Yet even in those times, there’s opportunity to inwardly pause and seek the Holy Spirit’s leading. He will lead us into all truth.

Pursue peace within your heart. (Psalm 34:14)
If we are inwardly anxious and fearful, it will block our ability to make sound decisions. God’s peace is beyond understanding when we present our request to Him for wisdom and direction. (Philippians 4:6-8)

Place all of your trust in God’s will and purpose for your life. (Jeremiah 29:11)
God has a plan for each of His children. We can’t always see how our journey is going to play out. However, we know that He makes everything work for our good (Romans 8:28), so we can trust that God is able.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I don’t know what to do in this situation. But I look to You to give me the wisdom, leading, and peace as I place all of my trust in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
