God Loves

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?

Romans 8:35

When I left home for college, it was the time of experiencing my independence in my relationship with God. I had the knowledge of who God was, but I didn’t really comprehend His love for me. When I sinned, I immediately felt rejection that led me to believe that God didn’t love me. And because I didn’t believe I was worthy of His love, I would continue in my sin because I didn’t believe He wanted me anymore.

This false notion not only stunted my spiritual growth at that time, but it continues to dodge many people attempting to walk in the faith. We mistakenly think that God loves us most when we are doing His will and living righteously. However, God doesn’t love us more or less at any period of time—He just loves us completely, totally, and unconditionally. There is nothing we can do to make Him love us more or less.

He proved His great love by sending Jesus Christ to die for our sins when we weren’t even looking for His forgiveness. He continues to show us love by drawing us by His Holy Spirit to know Him in deeper ways. His love for His children is intense, passionate, and jealous in a good way. He loves us too much to allow us to keep sinning. He loves us so much that He will allow pain in our lives so that we will get right with Him.

When we mess up—He doesn’t reject or abandon us to our sinful lives. Rather, He longs for us to come to Him so we can be forgiven and cleansed from our unrighteousness. He is the loving Father waiting at the end of the road for His prodigal sons and daughters to return home. When we do come, His arms are open wide to embrace us in His unfailing and unending love.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I know that You love me, but I often doubt it because of my weaknesses. Fill my heart with Your love overflowing so that I can show this unconditional love to others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
