Who is Your Lord

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.

Romans 10:9

A popular TV actress recently shared on a talk show about her open marriage. She and her husband have agreed to fill their emotional and physical needs with other people. Our culture will keep twisting the meaning of sex in marriage until it no longer means anything.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we don’t get to make up the commandments based on how we feel or what our culture deems as appropriate. When we decided that Jesus was Lord of our lives, we gave up what we wanted over what His word commands.

What makes Christian marriage unique is that two people have set apart themselves for each other for life. Even when they are struggling in the relationship, they still leave room only for each other and no one else. It’s what makes it special and unique because their bodies are only shared with each other.

When Jesus is Lord of our lives, it changes our desires. We begin to desire what He wants for us more than what we want for ourselves. We choose abstinence when we aren’t married. We choose our husbands or wives over other people. We choose to obey His commands even when we may feel differently.

One day every knee will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. (Romans 14:11) If we bow down to Jesus as Lord now, we will rejoice at His coming. If we refuse to bow our will to Jesus now, we will experience the awful judgment of rejecting Him…but we will bow one way or another.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I choose You as Lord of my life now. I choose Your word as the light for my path in this Christian journey. Amen.
