Voice of Truth

When we find ourselves in a tough place and searching for answers, we want to hear the voice of truth above all else. We have our own internal voice, the voices of family and friends, the voice of the world, and the voice of the devil. Sometimes it’s difficult to decipher which voice to listen and follow. How can we learn to hear the voice of truth?

We hear the voice of truth when we seek after God. (James 4:8)
When we really want to hear the voice of truth, we take the time to pray and seek God’s face. Many times we can’t hear His voice because we haven’t stopped ourselves from the constant busyness to seek after Him.

We hear the voice of truth when we know God’s word. (John 8:32)
It’s absolutely essential to know God’s word when we are seeking to hear from Him. If we aren’t well acquainted with what the Bible teaches, we can be deceived by other voices to follow after strange and false teachings.

We hear the voice of truth when we quiet all the other voices. (Psalm 131:2)
Sometimes we may need to quiet the voices of family, friends, social media, and television in order to hear from God. The other voices may not be harmful; however, they may block our ability to hear the voice of truth.

We hear the voice of truth when we walk in obedience. (Hebrews 4:7)
It’s difficult for us to hear from God if we are walking in sin. The only way to get right is to confess our sins and turn away from them. Choosing to continue in sinful behavior blocks our ability to hear from the Holy Spirit.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I need to hear the voice of truth today. Help me to pray daily, know Your word, quiet the other voices, and walk in obedience so that I can hear from You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
