And a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day.
Have you ever felt like you were tussling with God? You prayed and believed for your healing, but it hasn’t happened yet. You believe that He has a greater plan for your life, but nothing is looking good on the horizon for you yet. You get frustrated because you witness the prosperity of wicked people while you languish with unpaid bills and less income.
We can wrestle with God like Jacob did. Jacob went back and forth until the Lord touched his hip socket. While it might’ve ended Jacob’s wrestling match, it didn’t immediately end their interaction. This is because Jacob wouldn’t let go of the Lord even though he was told it was time. Jacob refused to let go until the Lord blessed him.
When we wrestle with God, do we hold on until He blesses us? Or do we let go too early without considering that God has a purpose for us even when we wrestle with His ways?
Wrestling is a sport of close contact, and we will know our opponent better than we know most people. When we are in close contact with Him, we become more familiar with Him. We know that our blessings can come through the Lord if we don’t let go too soon. The Lord could’ve shaken off Jacob whenever He wanted. However, Jacob had to reach out in faith and hold on until God blessed him.
We too in our wrestling with the Lord must hold on until He blesses us. And He will because He is the same God of Jacob whom we serve. Wrestle if we must–but hold on for our blessing!
Dear Lord, I wrestle with so many things because of the pains of this world. But I hold on until You bless me in this situation. In Jesus’ name, amen.
