Your Engine Light is On

Have you ever been driving and all of a sudden your engine light comes on? If you are good at looking into car engines, you may be able to figure out the problem. However, if you are like me—you have absolutely no idea what the problem is. Not only is having an engine light on disturbing, but it can be equally as expensive when someone else has to diagnosis and fix the problem.

What is the alternative? Keep driving with the engine light on, hope that it will go out eventually, and whatever the issue—it will resolved itself. Yet that isn’t a good alternative because the problem may not go away and it may get worse every time you drive it. A good car owner takes the difficult steps of getting the car checked out for its longevity and more importantly, safety for the passengers.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we have an internal engine light called our conscience. We may not always notice when the light is on especially if we are so busy doing things for God, but not spending time alone with Him. Our conscience will signal to us that something is wrong. It could be something that we said that was out of line, we could be harboring jealousy or resentment in our hearts, or we could’ve done something displeasing to the Holy Spirit.

Whatever the reason, we can’t ignore our conscience. We must get on our knees and pray for discernment from the Holy Spirit. He will show us where we went wrong and what we can do to make it right. If we take the time to give ourselves spiritual maintenance every day with prayer and Bible study—we will notice the engine light of our conscience and take the best measures possible for restoration.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I don’t want to lose my sensitivity to the Holy Spirit by ignoring my guilty conscience. Lead me into all truths that will bring restoration in my relationship with you. Amen.
