This is Us

There is a popular TV show about a family with many ups and downs. It reveals a redeeming truth—that family relationships are complex and complicated in many different ways. This is not only true for earthly families, but even more so in our spiritual families. Christianity is often messy and complicated with believers struggling at various levels of spiritual maturity, Biblical knowledge, and a diversity of experiences.

Yet, every single believer is united in Christ Jesus who is the head of the church. We are also filled with the same Holy Spirit regardless of our spiritual heritage, church background, or denomination. As our world cascades itself into further judgment and desolation, we have to love each other unconditionally in spite of our differences.

Jesus said, “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35) It’s not our love for God or Jesus that helps people know we are His disciples—but our love for one another. Peter said that “above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.” (1 Peter 4:8)

This is us—the body of Christ with all of its beauty and faults. We aren’t perfect, but by the grace of God, we are being perfected to be more like Christ. In these last days, we will be tested in our faith like never before. It will eventually come down to those who reject the worldly lifestyle and instead choose to unify in the love of Christ. May God use each one of us filled with the Spirit of Christ to love one another as He loves each of us.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to love my brothers and sisters in Christ unconditionally as I trust in You and Your word to lead me on the right paths. In Jesus’ name, amen.
