The Path of Contentment

When we are discontented, we make everyone around us more edgy. Our dissatisfaction and ungratefulness cause us to stumble with moodiness and depression. The life we live on this earth will never be perfect. People will let us down. Money will get tight. Work may get stressful at times. Our families will disappoint us. Our governments will pass unfair laws. Yet we aren’t called to be content when everything is going our way. True contentment shines the brightest when everything around us is going haywire—yet we are calm in the Lord.

How do we find the path of contentment when we are in the thick forest of despair? Let us find out how to be C-O-N-T-E-N-T in every situation.

C – Consider God’s hand and faithfulness on your life. Remember the times in the past when you didn’t know how you were going to make it and God came through for you.

O – Open up your heart and mind to God’s purpose more than your unmet desires. Refocus your attention to what God wants not just for you but also for those who are around you daily.

N – Negate any thoughts that cause you to doubt God’s power. Refuse the fiery darts of doubt that Satan wants to plant in your mind.

T – Take the initiative to search God’s word for peace in your heart. The Scriptures offer insights of peace and light to help guide your walk with Christ.

E – Engage in proactive prayers seeking God’s answer for your troubled heart. Talk honestly with God about your anxieties, and He will give you peace.

N – Never let your current circumstances determine your attitude and actions. Resist the urge to focus on how things are and instead train your mind towards God’s intervening hand.

T – Take control of your emotions and align them with the truths you know. Speak the Word of God to your heart and rest in God’s favor over your life.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I don’t want to live a discontented life. Help me to trust in You more fully so that I can experience Your overwhelming peace in the midst of trouble. Amen.
