When Noah and his family were preparing to enter the ark, God made a covenant that He would preserve them from the judgment of the world. When God called Abraham out of his country to an unknown land, He made a covenant that he would be the father of many nations. When Moses led the children of Israel out of Egypt towards the Promise Land, God made a covenant to protect and provide for them as they followed Him with all of their hearts.
In this age of grace, we have a new covenant according to Hebrews 9:15 “Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance.” Under the new covenant, Jesus poured out His innocent blood for our sins so that we may have eternal life.
What is our responsibility in this covenant? It’s to accept the grace of God through Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins. We are living examples of the covenant in our homes, churches, work, and community. As followers of Jesus Christ, we keep the covenant every day by living righteous lives as compelled by the Spirit of God.
Yet, none of us on our own can perfectly live out the covenant we have with God. Just as Noah, Abraham, and Moses fell short of God’s glory—we too, can fall short by our sins. Our ability to keep this covenant resides in the grace given to us by the Father in heaven through Jesus’ sacrifice. So although we may fall short, His blood remains a covenant for us. Because of the magnificent love and grace of God, we are covered through the new covenant of Jesus Christ eternally.
Dear Lord, thank You for the new covenant of Jesus’ sacrifice for my sins. I pray for Your strength and wisdom to live out this covenant every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
