The Filth of Sin

Divider

All our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.

Isaiah 64:6

Have you ever had the experience of cleaning up dog dung in your yard, but it wasn’t from your pet? It’s a disgusting but necessary job that many of us have had to do. We don’t like it, but we can’t allow dung to remain nearby because of sanitary reasons. It is one thing to have to clean up after your own pet, and it’s quite another to have to clean up after someone else’s due to lack of responsibility and decency.

Yet before we step up on the soap box of other people’s indecency, we must turn our eyes towards our own indecencies, that is sinfulness. Sadly, many people reject the sacrifice of Jesus Christ because they believe they are good people. And maybe they are, except their best day on earth is like being rubbed up and down with animal dung before God.

We bring nothing to the table before God. Our sins are many; and without the shedding of Christ’s blood, we will never enter into heaven. The filth of our sin isn’t allowed in God’s presence. When we recognize that our only redemption is through believing in Jesus Christ, we are completely cleansed and accepted into God’s kingdom.

Jesus doesn’t expect us to get cleaned up first and then come to Him. It’s impossible for us to clean ourselves up because we are born into sin. We come to Him filthy with our sin like dung. Through faith, He cleanses us with His blood, and we are cleansed in forgiveness. Our scarlet and filthy sins are washed away, and we become clean as white snow (Isaiah 1:18). No one who humbles themselves before Jesus will ever be turned away.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I need Your cleansing from sin. Forgive me and become Lord of my life so that I can one day spend eternity with You in heaven. Amen.
