Stop Blaming Yourself

But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

Romans 7:6

Our family dog was sick. Apparently, he had been suffering with diarrhea for five days before I was aware of it. As I drove to the vet that day, I knew that my busyness and distraction had kept me from taking action and saving the dog from unnecessary pain. I also realized that funds were tight and my children wouldn’t understand my inability to spend a great deal of money if our vet recommended expensive medical procedures.

With these thoughts reeling through my brain, I began to blame myself and load on the guilt of this situation plus every problem our family has had to deal with in the last few years. Not too long into my regrets, I sensed the Holy Spirit saying three words to my heart: “Stop blaming yourself.”

As I continued to drive, I realized that there are going to be many blind spots in my life with my children as well as with others. I’m not God, and I can’t be perfectly on spot with everything in my life. I’m going to fail at some things. The main focus should never be on me but on God because He is in control of everything, and He knows the beginning to the end.

I realized at that moment that God’s got it. Whether everything works out as I would like or everything falls apart, He will take care of me and my life situations as I put my trust in Him every day. When I release my weaknesses and blind spots to God, He uses them to help me grow up spiritually.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I put all my trust in You to help me overcome blaming myself, leading me to look to You for help and strength to face every day. Amen.
