We have battles every day. It could be battles with families, friends, and coworkers. Or it could be battles in our mind from fears, insecurities, or weaknesses. Sometimes we can get battle weary and want to step off the field to escape it all. Yet, as soldiers of Jesus Christ, we need to stay on the battlefield in this Christian journey.
What does it mean to stay on the battlefield? It means that we are walking, not in our own strength, but in the strength provided by God. It means that we are using the weapons of spiritual warfare including speaking truth, living righteously, sharing the gospel, being faithful, knowing God’s word, and praying every day.
Why should we stay on the battlefield when the opposition is tough? Because our reward for fighting the good fight of faith isn’t just for the next lifetime, but also in this one. The Lord rewards us with His presence, peace, and purpose on the battlefield. We learn more about God in the thick of battle than we do in times of quiet. Our victory over the sinful nature, the world, and the devil is primarily won on our knees in prayer.
It’s easier to have absence without leave, then it is to stand firm in the faith. Yet, running away isn’t an option for the courageous warrior of Christ. Our King of kings stands with us in the battle. He equips, trains, counsels, and unites us to overcome our enemies so that we grow up spiritually. We were chosen for our battles because of who God is and not because of our own talents. He makes us strong for the battle.
Dear Lord, I want to stay on the battlefield for You. I pray for renewed passion for the cause of Christ in spite of my daily inward and outward battles. Amen.
