When it’s Time to MOVE ON

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

Every new season of our lives can bring excitement and at the same time—apprehension. We get comfortable in the paths of our lives that feel safe and predictable. For some of us, life circumstances yank us out of comfort and for others—it’s just time for us to move on. For the believer, the decision to move forward to a new season depends heavily on the leading of the Holy Spirit. How can we MOVE ON with confidence?

M – Make time for prayer and reflection with God an absolute priority.
“If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here.” (Exodus 33:15)

It’s scary enough to move on—we need the power and presence of God to go with us. Therefore, we place the highest priority on prayer and God’s word as we move forward.

O – Open up your mind to change of purpose and direction.
“The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.” (Proverbs 20:5)
Sometimes we get locked in tunnel vision and we can only see one way for our purpose to be fulfilled. The Holy Spirit will allow us to see our purpose deeper and broader if we are open to a different way.
V – Voice your intent to move on to trusted family and friends.
“Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” (Proverbs 15:22)

If we keep our moving on to ourselves, we don’t allow opportunities for wise counsel and advice from those who care about us. God will speak to us through others—at the same time, we seek discernment from God on what we keep close and what we put aside.

E – Expect times of doubt or apprehension without letting them dominate your mind.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

We aren’t God and can’t see the big picture so we may feel at times a little apprehensive on taking the next steps. This is part of our spiritual walk that we can balance as we practice the presence of God on a daily basis.

O – Order your lifestyle to line up with the new direction.
“Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.” (Psalm 119:133)
When moving on, we may have to change up our spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, and financial lifestyle. Rather than waiting for everything to fall into place, many times we need to start strategic planning to get ready for the next move.
N – Never let go of God as your center of purpose and direction for your life.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” (Lamentations 3:24)

The Lord is our lighthouse leading us in the right direction. It’s imperative that we keep our eyes on Jesus Christ for clarity in this new season of life.

Prayer

Dear Lord, moving on feels scary at times, but I know You are with me all the way through to the next season of life. Help me trust like never before. In Jesus’ name, amen.
