Many times when we’ve experienced an awakening from God, we are ready to go right away. However, it may be awhile before what we have believed from God will come to pass. We may get excited and jump ahead of what God wants to do. Some of us try too quickly to repair a broken relationship. We may pay tithes/offerings and expect financial breakthroughs right away. We may have calling from God to reach the world for the gospel, yet it seems like we can’t even get past our own homes.
A farmer who plants a seed doesn’t go out the next day and expect to see a crop. He realizes that it takes time for the seed to grow root and press through the ground. It’s the same for our spiritual walk in the Lord—it may be awhile before we see the fruit of our labor. We can get impatient and want to walk away from God’s calling—many times assuming that perhaps we missed God somewhere along the way.
Yet the truth is that we must wait patiently on the Lord for He is good and His mercy endures forever. God is above and outside of our time so He doesn’t feel the same urgency that we do. Yet He is faithful to keep His promises if we would put our trust in Him in spite of all the odds that are stacked against us.
There is great joy and calmness that fills our hearts when we accept God’s timing over ours. He’s never in a hurry because He knows the beginning to the ending. Our faith in God is demonstrated when we believe in Him without seeing the fruit of the work right away. His unconditional and deep love will help us continue to trust and wait.
Dear Lord, help me to wait patiently on you. Sometimes it’s tough and I need your assurance that you are in control and I’m not. Help me to trust even when I don’t see the fruit right away. Amen.
