One of the hardest parts of being a single mom is that I can’t be the male role figure in my children’s lives. Many mothers attempt to do this by themselves; however, we may fall short in ways that we don’t even realize. Some of us have been blessed by godly brothers in the church who’ve stepped up to help us. However, many of us trudge the journey of single motherhood by ourselves.
Yet, because we’ve placed our trust in God—He will be a Father to our children just as He can be a Husband to us. (Isaiah 54:5) As followers of Jesus Christ, we can pray and seek God’s help to lead our children in the areas that we can’t. While having a godly father in the home would be ideal, our children aren’t abandoned to lose out when God is their Father.
When God is the Father of our children, He sees everything including their hearts and draws them to Himself. (Hebrews 7:25, Mark 4:22)
When God is the Father of our children, He not only hears and answers our prayers, but He gives us how to intercede for them. (Romans 8:26-27)
When God is the Father of our children, He provides everything they need when they need it. (Philippians 4:19)
When God is the Father of our children, He protects them with His heavenly angels. (Psalm 91:11)
When God is the Father of our children, He disciplines them with life lessons they will need to become responsible adults. (Hebrews 12:6)
When God is the Father of our children, He makes everything good and bad work together for their good. (Romans 8:28)
When God is the Father of our children, He loves them unconditionally. (Ephesians 2:4)
Dear Lord, I call on You to be the Father my children need to grow up in a godly home. Strengthen me according to Your word to be a discerning and faithful mother. In Jesus’ name, amen.
